A Degree College, borne at Kotranka
Govt Degree College came into being at Kotranka (Rajouri) on May 28, 2019, breaking the dawn
of opportunity for the youth of this hilly township, and the adjoining hamlets, to pursue higher
education with determination and contribute to societal development of this remote area. Thanks
to the Govt Higher Education Department of UT of Jammu and Kashmir for its action oriented
vision and path breaking decision by sanctioning the establishment of this college through Govt
Order No 48-HE 0f 2019 dated Feb 05, 2019.
The college began its functioning in the 4 room accommodation, thrown available by Govt Higher Secondary School Kotranka, and the deployment of one Assistant Professor, one lab assistant, and one lab bearer by the Govt Higher Education Department, saw this fledgling taking off in the intended direction.
Admission process was rolled out by the college in the month of July, 2019 and the inaugural batch of 99 students was enrolled to Semester – I of 3 year BA Degree programme. These privileged students had 9 Core Courses to choose from, that include Arabic, Economics, English, Geography, History, Political Science, Persian, Sociology and Urdu besides Environmental Science as Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC).
